There
comes a time in in every homebrewers life when they will
consider whether to keg or not to keg. It's an age old question
that's been around as long as people have been homebrewing
in America. When this time comes for you, there will be
a few questions to ponder... What type of system do you
want to use? Does the system fit your budget? Are you going
to buy or build your own system? Do you want your system
to handle store bought kegs (a.k.a. "Sanke"),
or 5 gallon soda kegs (a.k.a. "Corny"), or both?
Do you have space for the system? Etc. etc. Continue on
below to learn more about kegging and what's involved. We've
provided some great resources, including manuals and a referral
to a professional in the beer service industry who specializes
in both commercial and homebrew bar and kegging systems!

If you've decided to keg your homebrew, you will
find that there are quite a few advantages to kegging over
bottling. For one, there's no more need to sanitize all
of those bottles! One 5 gallon soda keg will hold one
standard 5 gallon batch of homebrew. It can also be much
faster from fermenter to mug. When
you keg, you can "force carbonate" your beer instead
of relying on the yeast to do it for you. Force carbonating
only takes one day as opposed to a minimum of 2 weeks for
naturally conditioned beer. The positives go on and on...
To learn more about kegging your homebrew you are
always welcome to drop by our store. We have a trained staff
that can help you with your questions. We're
also carrying more and more bar and kegging equipment, including
basic parts such as taps, faucets, connectors, as well as
complete conversion kits which you can use for
building your own kegerator!
For your convenience, we've
provided some very informative, downloadable manuals below.
The Zymurgy manual gives a basic rundown on kegging, while
the American Homebrewers Association "Draught Beer
Quality" manual goes into great depth. Just click the
links below to download them!
